The 9th Parliament with 34% women, increased from the 31% in the 8th Parliament, but is still lower than the parity target set by the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.

I am just really struck by how we unquestioningly transport the term “Iron Lady” and make it apply to women in power in Uganda. It is even more ridiculous when one thinks that the argument for the ridiculous bills we are passing in Parliament is that the practices are adapted from western culture.
